The miles of golden sand that is soft to the touch of your feet, a clear blue sea that surrounds the island, all enhanced by the backdrop of coves, cliffs and palm trees, making many of them the beaches of your dreams.
Mallorca has over 120 beaches, some of which are only accessible by foot, but they are well worth the walk. Of course there are the holiday resort beaches as well, where you will have all the conveniences of being in a resort along with the wonderful beach. Umbrellas and loungers are available for hire on the popular tourist beaches and there will be shops to browse, as well as cafes and bars to stop for a coffee and snack.
It does not matter what sort of beach you want, you will have no trouble finding it on Mallorca.
On the east of the island you will find the beach of Cala Millor. Although there is a resort at Cala Millor, this beach needs mentioning because it is special. The sea here is shallow, the sand white and soft, and it is a very safe beach for children.
There are beaches at many other east coast locations such as Porto Christo, Portocolom and Cala d’Or
Head to the north and you will find the glorious beach at Puerto Pollensa, which is just along the road from the beach of Alcudia. They are both long and golden, and very popular for water sports and boat enthusiasts. If you visit these towns on the right days, you can also enjoy their markets, both of which are popular traditional markets where you will find bargains galore. From Puerto Pollenca it is not far to the old town of Pollenca where if you are feeling energetic, you can climb 365 steps to a small chapel and café. It is worth the climb just to see the views.
The Tramuntana Mountains are on the west of the island so there are fewer beaches, and they tend to be small and sometimes pebbly. Many of them are only accessible from the sea, but it is on this coast you will come across one of the islands most spectacular beaches, Sa Colobra.
You can reach this beach down a narrow bendy road, which if you are a nervous driver you should not attempt. You park at the small port and then walk through a tunnel to arrive at a beach between two huge cliffs. Boats will drop you near the beach if you decide to access it that way. However, you should avoid Sa Colobra after heavy rain or on windy days when it can become inaccessible.
You will also find places like Soller and Deia on the west coast.
On the south of Mallorca the sand tends to be white, the sea turquoise, and the beaches busy in the summer months. It is where the English communities tend to live, so you will find the language barrier to be very small on this part of the island. The beaches of Santa Ponsa, Palma Nova, Portals Nous, and El Toro are just a few of the wonderful beaches on this part of Mallorca.
