Luxury villa rentals in Selva, Mallorca
It’s a great place in which to rent holiday accommodation in Mallorca, far away from the hustle and bustle of the island’s tourist resorts. Here you can relax away from the cares of the world. Selva has character in spades. It’s actually part of a larger municipal area which includes Moscari, Biniamar, Binibona and Caimari. The town has its roots deep in the agricultural tradition of Mallorca. As in many traditional Mallorcan towns, the imposing feature is once again the parish church.
Selva celebrates a number of summer fiestas which offer a good way to get a handle on the local culture and customs of the area. In particular, the Selva herb fair held in June each year draws in a large crowd. (Selva is unique in the fact that it is the only village on the island to celebrate herbs.)
Here Selva’s central square is decked out with stalls full of local, freshly harvested herbs – as you can imagine, the smells are wonderful!
Being so agriculturally orientated, it also comes as no surprise that the town has a fiesta celebrating olives and olive oil production every November.
Almonds play a large role in the agricultural economy of Selva too. In Spring, you’ll find some of the most wonderful sights in Mallorca here as the almond trees burst into blossom.
If you fancy a pleasant walk, make your way up to the nearby Santa Magdalana hermitage. It will take you a couple of hours, but the views from the top of the Puig d’Inca are well worth the effort.
Es Pla, the central agricultural plain of Mallorca lies below and in the distance you can spot the sparkling bays of Pollensa and Alcudia.
The monastery of the Santa Magdalana Hermitage is well worth a look around. There is a restaurant here where you can enjoy rewarding refreshments after your hike. Alternatively, you could take your own goodies with you and enjoy a picnic in the area provided.
Selva enjoys good road connections (mainly Motorway) with the capital Palma and its International Airport. It also has the large town of Inca nearby. However, without your own transport, Selva can seem a little of the beaten track, so it may be an idea to consider car hire if you fancy enjoying many of the sights and sounds Mallorca has to offer.
