Ses Paisses

Ses Paisses is a talayotic settlement estimated to date back to the first century, and is one of the best-preserved structures on the island. Situated to the south of Arta, this impressive stone collection is easily reached with a stay in one of our holiday villas in the area, and is a great way to explore the ancient history of Mallorca. There are an estimated 270 talayots on Mallorca, and although these ruins are not as extensive as those found elsewhere on the island, they are certainly well worth a visit for those interested in learning more about the ancient history of the early settlers of Mallorca.

Glimpse into the past at Ses Païsses

It is believed that the structure really began to take shape about 3,000 years ago, and covers over 13,500 square feet.

This prehistoric site was named a historical and artistic monument in 1946, and is today one of the most popular points of interest in the area. The site has been excavated many times, with a number of interesting pieces recovered. One of the most impressive parts of the structure are the stone slabs that make up the doorway, leading into the tree covered “village” that remains. Taking the Ma-15, you can drive south of the city centre to spend an afternoon wondering around this large impressive area, enjoying the lush greenery that has developed throughout.
