Northern Mallorca has a lot to offer tourists, with little towns and beautiful beaches nestled among the impressive Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa holidays fit this description perfectly but offer more than just scenery. Bursting with activities and places to explore the Pollensa area makes the perfect base for families of all ages.
Why choose a villa in Pollensa?
Villas in Mallorca offer comfort, luxury, and freedom for families. Eat breakfast in your own kitchen, without being bound by hotel serving times. Splash around in your own private pool away from the noise and hubbub of other guests.
Hiring a villa in Pollensa is also a great way to immerse yourself in local culture. Instead of staying in a hotel surrounded by other tourists, you can soak up the Mallorcan countryside from your own garden. You can choose from modern contemporary Mediterranean villas and rustic farmhouse style buildings. Many Pollensa villas also offer private parking, so you can whisk the family off on a day trip whenever you fancy. Have a look at these villas for inspiration.
Things to do in Puerto Pollensa
Whether you stay in a villa in Pollensa or Puerto Pollensa, you’ll never find yourself bored. Puerto Pollensa’s main beach is the ideal place to rent a sun lounger and relax under a straw parasol. There’s nothing better than listening to the water trickle against the shore on a bright sunny day.
The sand stretches for miles, merging with nearby beaches and creating the perfect backdrop for a seaside family stroll. The Pine Walk Promenade offers the perfect opportunity to take in the views. The pathway runs along the back of the beach, flanked by gorgeous trees and traditional buildings. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés along the way if you decide to stop and take in the view.
For those who enjoy taking to the water, Puerto Pollensa offers a range of activities, including water sports. Or you could set out on a chartered boat to find some of the most beautiful areas the island has to offer.
Things to do in Pollensa
Pollensa is a traditional town with cobbled squares for alfresco dining, winding lanes, and historical architecture. Despite the tourists who pass through its streets, Pollensa has a very Mallorcan feel, with local shops, residents, and houses.
One of Pollensa’s main highlights is the Calvari Steps. 365 steps (one for each day of the year) lead the way to a small church set atop a hill. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views over Pollensa town, stretching across the mountains right to the turquoise sea. On your way down, you might stop off in a little shop or café, depending on the season.
There’s plenty to explore hidden amongst the rugged stone buildings, too. Art-lovers should pay a visit to the little Dionís Bennàssar Museum, named after a local artist. The museum sits in a typical 17th Century Mallorcan house, which was once the artist’s home and now showcases much of his legacy. Visitors will see oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, and sculptures.
Using Pollensa as a base
Pollensa’s Northern location makes it the perfect base for those who enjoy exploring. For example, the area isn’t far from the breath-taking peninsular of Cap de Formentor, complete with its own lighthouse. There, the land is covered with pine trees, winding roads, and incredible sheer cliffs that drop into the deep-blue Mediterranean. Just make sure you don’t mind a few hairpin bends along the way!
Children in particular will enjoy a fun family day trip to neighbouring Alcúdia’s local waterpark. There, families can race down slides, play in the water, try their hand at minigolf, or explore the dedicated kid’s zone.

When to rent a villa in Pollensa
Mallorca’s peak holiday season takes place in July and August. You can usually expect highs of around 30 and lows of 20. Many villas in Pollensa come with air conditioning, covered terraces, and private pools, creating a little oasis at the hottest times of the day.
An advantage of villa holidays in peak season is that everything is open. Activity centres, restaurants, art galleries, tour guides…everyone is ready to welcome visitors and show them the exciting attractions the area has to offer. Public transport is usually readily available too.
Alternatively, some visitors prefer to holiday off peak. Just out of high season, in June or September, for example, temperatures still have highs around 27 and lows of 18. Many amenities will still be open then, especially in popular places like Puerto Pollensa. Some tourists choose to visit in winter, swapping icy rain for glistening blue waters.
Of course, you can’t guarantee the weather out of peak season, but you’re likely to save a little money. Many villas use tiered pricing, meaning that renting in the off-season is often more budget friendly.
